Matthew Prain has been fascinated with sound since he first picked up a violin at the age of 6. Playing and studying the classical instrument throughout secondary school fostered a passion for all things music and led to the Brisbane-based composer gaining a Bachelor of Music Technology from the Queensland Conservatorium in 2011. Matthew is constantly seeking opportunities to hone his composition and recording skills, as well as expand his knowledge of sound design. He has released two ambient EPs and a full-length album and his music has been featured on the ABC Radio National program “Sound Quality”. Creating unusual textures and sounds with music using niche electronic instruments – especially for film – has been a particular focus. He won Griffith Film School awards for short film scores in 2011, 2013, and 2015, and wrote the music for the Australian independent feature film Tailgate which was released in May 2015.
